Costume pieces were gathered together and then improvised the day of shooting. The makeup, hair, and ensembles were never practiced and completely on a whim! I hand-crafted the crown ahead of time using sticks, twine, paint, and fake plants.

In addition to my many other responsibilities, I was largely in charge of the costumes, hair, makeup, and (of course) the overall aesthetic of the film.
The biggest challenge? The dress!
I purchased a gorgeous $200 wedding dress offline and then hand-painted it with acrylics to give it a more antique, wooden feel.
And finally? The Reds.
The color red symbolizes life throughout the film. Consequently, every flawed human that Marvel observes outside her window has some form of red mark or accessory that matches the poisonous berries in the bouquet Felix delivers to Marvel. We intentionally increased the amount of red present in the film as the story and ultimate conclusion progressed.
The light, props, and accessories progressively get warmer and redder outside of the wood shop until, finally, Marvel discovers a mark of red blood on her hand, proving that she is alive and human, despite her alternative beginnings. And it's the red poison in the whiskey that brings Knox's demise.
Fun fact: The red scarf that Felix wears in the middle of the film is the scarf that Marvel is wearing at the end).

Second biggest challenge? The Scar!
Felix's character represents the beauty and danger of freedom. In the film he's a street dancer, but his tattered military jacket and long scar suggest a darker past. I wanted the scar to look deep and realistic, especially when up against the high quality RED.
